Deciding to become a designer wasn’t always very clear to me. My earliest recollection of my aspiration to become a designer, started when I had to write an essay in third grade of who I wanted to become when I grew up. It was not until I emigrated to the U.S. and began exploring my options for further education, that I learned that my love for fashion was sort of a family inheritance. My grandfather was job was designing custom traditional Chinese dress, QiPao, in Shanghai and Hong Kong, Though I never had the chance to meet my grandfather, I hear from my father how my grandpa was, the passion about culture, meanings of tradition transcending into clothing. I imagine his thought process is just like mine. Nevertheless I consider us polar opposites because I am more focused on modernizing culture, but yet still similar. Thus the name of my collection NS, North. South.
